Cast iron fireplace-stove in the interior

To heat the room, many owners of country houses and cottages choose a stove. Such a device allows not only to achieve the desired temperature in the room, but also gives pleasure from admiring an open flame. Different materials can be used to create a stove. Consider the features of manufacturing models of cast iron.

Special features

Externally, the stove is a rectangular (slightly elongated upwards) structure, in the middle of which there is a fire chamber. At the bottom of the firebox there is a grate - a special grate on which to place firewood or other fuel. Under the grate there is an ashtray for ash collection. In addition, the ash pan can be equipped with a damper, by adjusting the position of which you can change the intensity of combustion.

The combustion chamber is connected to the chimney, which, firstly, provides traction, and secondly, removes combustion products from the room.

The basis of the fireplace - the principle of pyrolysis, that is, the operation of the device is due to the energy of the pyrolysis gas resulting from the combustion of solid fuel (wood, coal).

Such furnaces are usually performed with a closed firebox, since the efficiency of such devices is greater than the efficiency of furnaces with an open firebox. For comparison: the first indicator reaches 80%, and the open type device shows only 5% efficiency.

The closed fire chamber has a glass door. This can be either a fully glass part, framed in profile, or a small “window” in the cast door. In any case, thick (6-8 mm) fireproof glass is used. This detail suggests that the cast-iron stove has not only practical but also an aesthetic function.

In addition, there are models equipped with a hob, which allows them to be used also for cooking and heating food.

The advantage of cast iron models is their strength, stability (this design will not turn over during operation), resistance to high temperatures and the absence of deformation.Cast iron has a high thermal conductivity, so that the heating of the room is quite fast. In addition, the material cools for a long time, which then allows you to maintain a comfortable temperature in the house.

In addition to firewood and coal, it is possible to use for kindling branches, wood remains, pellits (compressed sawdust, waste of woodworking enterprises, as well as peat, sawdust, straw). In general, cast iron stoves are simple, and therefore rarely fail. They are easy to install, thanks largely to the supplied chimneys. The only thing is required to provide thermal insulation of the floor covering and walls with which it contacts and near which a fireplace is installed.

During operation, cast iron stoves become hot, therefore, the device should function only under human control to prevent fire. Cast iron has a considerable weight - the furnace from it weighs on average 75-85 kg, which can create certain difficulties during transportation and installation of the device.

Kinds

The functional of cast iron stoves is diverse, therefore, the following types of them are distinguished:

  • heating models, which are exclusively a device for heating a house (in the presence of a transparent door, the “stove” also performs a decorative function);
  • heating and cooking panels equipped with a hob and sometimes an oven;
  • the furnaces having the tank for water and used for its heating;
  • universal models that combine all the listed features.

Separately, it is necessary to allocate the furnace casting with a water circuit. This stove is connected to the existing radiators in the house.

Thanks to this, it is possible to ensure by means of such a device that heating of not just one room, but the whole house. Outwardly, such a furnace is no different from similar cast-iron devices, except that it is equipped with a heat exchanger with a coil, through which the coolant (usually hot water) is circulated.

If we talk about the location of the cast-iron stove in the interior, there are several varieties.

  • The walls. Installed along one of the walls, can be located in living rooms, in the kitchen, as well as in the bath, on a closed terrace.
  • Corner models. Thanks to the design features are installed in the corner, which saves usable space. Differing in ergonomics and compactness, corner designs are especially in demand in small rooms.
  • Island Installed in the center of the room, may have 2 translucent doors, but this reduces the efficiency of the device.

If the classification criteria include the criterion of the type of fuel, the cast-iron fireplaces are:

  • wood;
  • coal;
  • pellet.

The first ones are distinguished by larger sizes, since the furnace part in them is more overall. It is not necessary to put into the oven fuel that is not intended for this device.

Finally, cast iron stoves vary in power ratings.

Design

Due to the nature of the material (it is not very plastic), cast iron products cannot boast a large variety of shapes. Features of operation also leave an imprint on the design of the device.

As a rule, cast iron stoves have a rectangular or cylindrical shape. However, decorative elements - painting, accessories, turn the product into a real work of art.

Such fireplaces often have a retro-style design, which allows them to harmoniously look in similar interiors, as well as rooms in a “rustic” style.

The room can have a modern design, then the oven has a concise design, the presence of a large glass door.Steel pens and other shiny surfaces make it possible to "fit" the design in high-tech interiors.

Tips and tricks

When buying a cast iron stove, make sure that it meets the basic requirements for devices of this type:

  • high efficiency and thermal conductivity, which will guarantee a quick heating of the room;
  • high security;
  • ease of use.

If necessary, choose a device equipped with additional options.

Due to the fact that such units operate on the principle of convection (that is, the thermal energy is transferred to the room by flows), the room heats up quickly - on average, in 2-3 hours. It is important to choose the power of the device corresponding to the area of the room.

If the latter is large (greater than the furnace capacity provided), then the device will regularly operate at the limit of its functionality, which will lead to its rapid failure. In addition, it will take longer to heat such rooms.

Usually, manufacturers indicate 2 indicators of furnace power - nominal and maximum. The first is measured after 3 hours from the start of warming up, the second - after 40 minutes.

For efficient convection, it is important that the oven is located in the center of the room. or at least it was at a distance of 1.5-2 m from the wall. The only exception is the corner models, which are installed very close to the walls.

If the stove is equipped with air ducts, it is better to place it near the door or the flight of stairs. So it will be possible to ensure the circulation of warm air masses throughout the house.

For the operation of the furnace, a warmed chimney, mounted in accordance with the fire safety requirements, will be required. The chimney which is included in the furnace package joins it. The latter must have a height of at least 3 m to obtain thrust. In the future, it is necessary to clean the chimney once a year. If the furnace is operated irregularly, it can be done a little less often - once in a year or two or two.

The presence in the furnace of a special damper with cable and dampers of the lower pallet will allow to heat the furnace more strongly and, accordingly, to warm up the room more intensively and faster.

Cast iron does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature, which can cause cracking. In this regard, it is not recommended to use it in unheated premises that are used quite rarely (for example, in the country,where in winter you come rarely).

Manufacturers

Today you can buy models of Russian and foreign production. Consider the most popular of them.

The trust of customers enjoys the company's products Eurokom (Poland), especially the Ambra model. It differs in durability (service life - 10 years) and practicality. In addition to the heating function, the stove has a hob.

The power of the unit (and this is 7 kW) is enough for heating rooms up to 7 m2. It has compact dimensions (width is 48 cm, depth - 36 cm with a height of 84 cm), therefore it is suitable even for small rooms.

The presence of a spacious ashpit facilitates the operation of the device. The stove has an attractive design in retro style. Original patterns, noble patina - all this makes the device a worthy decoration of the interior. It is important that the model is distinguished by its affordability, its cost varies between 20,000 and 25,000 rubles.

Of interest is also the oven "Crown JA010" from the eponymous Chinese manufacturer. Its main feature is mobility, the ability, if necessary, to move the furnace to another place.This product is even smaller than the Polish counterparts. The parameters of the Chinese furnace - 438-387-627 mm, power - 6 kW. Designed again in retro style. The device has bent legs, original patterns and a stylish handle of the door of the combustion chamber. The average price is 15,000 rubles.

Russian manufacturers in terms of product quality are not inferior to their European counterparts. An example of this is oven "Bavaria" from the domestic brand "Ekokamin". The product complies with European quality and safety requirements. Due to the high thermal efficiency and power of 9 kW, the furnace quickly warms up a room of up to 90 m2.

The device can be safely attributed to the category of “smart”, because it has the saving of firewood, a special mode of cleaning windows. Practicality and polyfunctionality are also an advantage of the model. It is equipped with cooking tiles, so not only heats and decorates the room, but also serves for cooking.

A distinctive feature of the design is a stylish glass door, facing the side panels with heat-insulating tiles. The cost of the model is from 17,000 to 20,000 rubles.

Another manufacturer with a high consumer rating - Meta company (Russia). The products are made of high quality French cast iron, almost all components are of European origin. This allows you to create high-quality and durable products. Such as stove fireplace "Marseille".

The device is intended for heating large (up to 140 m2) premises, since it is characterized by a power of 14 kW.

The combustion process is more efficient because the wood in the combustion chamber is placed vertically. This leads to the elongated shape of the device (the furnaces of the same brand "Narva" and "Ohta" with hob). High thermal efficiency, reliability and attractive appearance have led to a higher cost of the device. The average price is 45 000 - 50 000 rubles.

If you are looking for a compact corner fireplace, pay attention to model "Brandenburg" production "Zharstal". Power of 9 kW, as well as the ability to connect to a warm floor guarantee high-quality operation of the device. It has a modern design - the presence of tiles with imitation of stone on the side panels make the unit elegant and respectable.

Positive feedback has products Jotul (Norway), as well as Italian stoves La Nordica.
