 Hexagonal gazebo do it yourself: drawings, dimensions and manufacturing

There are different types of garden arbors, but one of the most popular forms for such summer or winter construction is the hexagon. Despite the large number of vertical supports, this canopy does not look massive, on the contrary - the hexagonal gazebos are distinguished by sophistication and external lightness.

Special features

Hexagonal construction has several advantages. From the point of view of harmonious construction in any natural landscape, models of small and medium architectural forms, striving for a round shape, meet all the laws of feng shui.Thus, we can assume that rest under a canopy of a hexagonal shape will energize and support health.

If we talk about utilitarian and decorative aspects, we can distinguish the following advantages of such a solution:

  • The 6-angle arbor is much more spacious than a square or rectangular building;
  • similar design - strong and reliable, it is able to withstand a large mass of snow in winter;
  • Arbor of this form can be made of any material, it is possible due to the stability of the structure;
  • most often it is the hexagonal shape of the building erected for winter picnics, as the frame technology is able to withstand heavy glazing;
  • simplicity of the design is available for the construction of any craftsman;
  • attractive appearance.

What material to choose?

For the construction of a six-sided arbor any material used in construction is suitable. Such an object can be built from the remnants of previous construction projects. This will save money, while maintaining the stylistic unity of all objects on the site. However, each material has its own exceptional characteristics, which should be read.

Tree

The hands can make a chopped hex arbor. Such a structure will have a massive appearance, but with large sizes it looks attractive, emphasizing the rough rustic style on the site. An alternative option is a pergola from a log in a forest style. Beams and supports are treated in such a way as to preserve the imperfect outlines of real trees, leaving knots and material texture. The lower part is artistically closed with ordinary branches.

    Processed wood in the form of boards is also suitable for the construction of a six-sided arbor. A common breed for the construction of a shed is pine. Thin supports and decor of the lower part of the gazebo from the slats will help create an elegant and weightless building for the garden. Such options are most popular, as the lightened elements can be installed alone.

    Features of processing and the basic properties of the material can be described by a number of statements:

    • the tree needs to be treated with antiseptics from the formation of mold and special impregnations from rotting - this is how you can extend the life of the building and preserve its attractive appearance;
    • When installing an outdoor fireplace or barbecue grill next to it, you should observe fire safety techniques, since wood is a combustible material;
    • wood is a fairly light material, so the arbor does not need a fortified foundation;
    • compared to brick or natural stone, wood is a much cheaper material, but less durable;
    • wood is an environmentally friendly material, safe for human health;
    • attractive appearance of the construction of wood is guaranteed;
    • wood parts are characterized by ease of installation.

    Brick

    Brick hexagonal arbors are a serious structure, rather heavy for perception. From such material it is better to build a sophisticated version of a gazebo, for example, a summer kitchen or a shed with an outdoor fireplace, stove and barbecue. Only in this case, the consumption of expensive material will be justified.

    The functional features of brick arbors are as follows:

    • it is necessarily a heavy structure that requires a solid foundation;
    • brick does not rot, mold does not grow in it - this is a weighty advantage in comparison with wooden buildings;
    • the brick does not burn and does not support fire; therefore, this material is chosen for the construction of outdoor fireplaces under a shed;
    • this material is environmentally friendly;
    • brick arbors are monotonous, but the situation can be changed by combining different materials for decoration and decoration;
    • requires some skill for laying bricks.

    Metal

    Very hardy and durable material, which at the same time looks elegant and thin. Metal hexagon summer houses can boast of various design options, full of decorative elements. Especially luxurious look forged models with different patterns and motifs. Due to the endurance of the material, it is possible to build a closed glass hexagonal structure on a metal frame.

      In addition, the metal itself and gazebos from it have a number of features:

      • durability of the structure;
      • if you make your own gazebo with your own hands, then all the elements will have to be welded, and this requires special skills and tools;
      • You can fasten individual parts to the frame with special metal screws, but this method is less reliable;
      • welding places difficult to decorate;
      • The material has a high level of endurance, it is safe for human health, does not ignite and does not support fire.

      Preparation for construction: drawings and tools

      For the competent construction of any construction object, first of all, drawings with all dimensions and calculations are drawn up. It’s better to start your project with a picture of an arbor in the form in which it appears on the site. Complex elements are best worked on a separate drawing in detail and in detail. This applies to the roof and individual connections. According to such a detailed scheme, it is easy to make an estimate and calculate the required amount of building materials.

      When all the schemes will be worked out, you should prepare the tools that will be needed for the construction of the object.

      Here is a sample list:

      • circular power saw;
      • jigsaw and hacksaw;
      • The miter box is an important tool for building a six-sided arbor, as with it you can cut off some of the material at the required angle;
      • electric drill and drill bit to it;
      • screwdriver;
      • hammer;
      • construction tape and level, plumb;
      • pliers, nippers;
      • the drill for works on the base device;
      • ladder.

      For the construction of metal structures also need special screws and drills for metal, Bulgarian, welding; for brick buildings - concrete mixer, formwork boards, fittings, construction trowel or trowel, pickaxe, jointing.

      Phased construction of a gazebo

      In the construction of arbors from different materials there are a number of fundamental differences. The most popular model for self-erection is considered to be the construction of treated wood. It is easy to build, the material is affordable and does not require special decorative decoration.

      Therefore, we consider step by step the stages of the construction of a six-sided arbor made of wood.

      • According to the drawings, it is necessary to make wood blanks with the help of a circular machine, and then trim the boards with an electric planer.
      • To process material with antiseptic and impregnation from rotting.
      • At the place where it was decided to put a gazebo, it is necessary to make markup in the form of a future building - the foundation for the foundation. Hexagon is easy to get from the circle, so with a rope and two pegs on the ground you need to draw a circle. The radius of a given circle is equal to one side of a hexagon — based on this rule, it is easy to construct a hexagon from the resulting circle.
      • Further, inside the resulting figure they dig a foundation pit, about half a meter in diameter. Formed sand and gravel pillow, which is well compacted.
      • Support points are set at six points. It is best if they are made of concrete. You can use wooden logs, but in the ground they tend to rot and collapse over time.
      • For the stability of the structure, a reinforcing bar is driven into the concrete pillars in the middle. It will sit on it and then the elements of wood.
      • Horizontal supports sit around the perimeter of the future gazebo on the armature in two rows with an overlap method.
      • Next is the installation of a log for the floor. In order for the coating to be strong and stable, additional concrete supports are installed under the intersections of the lag.
      • The construction of the lag must be embedded in the already prepared horizontal supports.
      • In the uprights, holes are made for the fittings with a drill. Further, these supports are installed and with the help of scraps of wood are aligned clearly perpendicular to the future floor.
      • A temporary measure to align the vertical axes is removed after the trim is installed on top of the structure.
      • Middle piping is the future railing.For better stability, the railings are installed in the middle of the structure.
      • Next begins installation of the roof frame. According to the diameter of the hexagon, a board is smashed, on which a hexagon pole is installed in the center. Rafters will diverge from it.
      • Six rafters should fit snugly to the edges of the support pole. On the other hand, they must crash into the support upper trim. The whole structure is strengthened by self-tapping screws.
      • The frame of the roof is ready, you can proceed to the installation of the roof. As a material, you can choose shingles, slate, metal profiles, decking and so on. In the first case, it is necessary to make a base of OSB. Cut the slab should be on the ground, cutting elements strictly along the edges. Next, the OSB is installed and fixed on top of the roof frame, treating the joints with a sealant.
      • For any heavy roofing material should be made of metal eaves.
      • Now you can lay the roofing material.
      • Before finishing work on the floor, it is necessary to protect the structure from below from moisture; for this, the voids between the lags are sewn up with vapor barrier.
      • A deck or rabbet board is suitable as a flooring material.
      • The lower part of the gazebo is decorated in the chosen style; the entire structure is painted or varnished.

      Wooden hex arbor is ready! It remains to pave the garden path to the building, plant around flower beds and shrubs. As an additional detail, you can install benches around the perimeter. If the gazebo is large and spacious, it is better not to do this, but arrange garden furniture, for example, a dining room group.

      Metal structures are similar in installation to wooden buildings, only the tool kit is different, but for brick arbors, a reinforced concrete foundation is needed. The secret of the stability of brick construction are reinforced pipes, which are used as vertical supports, and bricks are laid around them, fastened with cement. Iron pipes are also racks for the roof frame.

      Beautiful examples

      The spacious gazebo can become a kind of lounge area in the garden. In such a summer room you can arrange sofas, chairs, coffee table. Decorative flower pots, which are part of the arbor and are made of the same material, perfectly combine nature and wooden construction.

      A miniature gazebo with versatile edges can fit into any corner of the garden. Such lightweight construction seems to dissolve in landscape design. Great place for solitude and reading a love story.

        Winter gazebos are often made in the shape of a hexagon. In the center there is a barbecue grill, from which it becomes warm inside. The principle of construction of a winter building is the same as in the summer version, the difference is in the insulation and glazing of the object.
