How long does concrete contact dry?

Currently, there is an excellent tool that promotes the adhesion of a variety of materials (even glass and ceramics). Primer concrete contact is the most popular among consumers. There are no analogues of these products on the current market. This mixture dries quite quickly, but only if used correctly.

What it is?

The special composition of the baton-contact includes acrylic with the addition of glue and cement. This primer will help to turn a slightly rough or smooth surface into an emery sheet. Such an interesting effect creates quartz sand in the form of small grains. Decorative materials do not keep well on a smooth surface, therefore the use of concrete contact allows to prepare the surface with maximum quality.

The composition is applied in the preparation of the walls under the tiles, plaster and under many other decorative materials. Betonokontakt replaces the bandage, which was previously used to avoid crumbling plaster. Here are just a bandage - a time-consuming and complex process, and with any primer cope.

Features and benefits

Consider the distinctive characteristics and quality of primer concrete contact, which make it indispensable in the finishing works:

  • It can be applied on the ceiling, on the floor and even on the walls. The primer increases the tenacity so much that it allows the facing material to be held upright.
  • The material dries quickly. When drying, there is no unpleasant smell, harmful substances do not enter the air. The speed of the process depends on the correctness of the work and the microclimate of the room.
  • Concrete moisture resistant. The tool can be used as a waterproofing.
  • Manufacturers are pleased with the lifetime of the primer. If the instructions are followed, the primer will last up to 80 years.
  • The presence of pigment in the composition of the soil allows to cover the surface as tightly as possible. Due to the visible color, you will immediately notice the missing places.
  • The mixture of concrete contact in its consistency resembles sour cream. Due to this, the tool is easily applied to the surface using a convenient tool.
  • The mixture can be used not only by experienced craftsmen, but also by beginners. There is nothing difficult to use; you do not need to have special skills.

Application details

All manufacturers of concrete contact write a short instruction on the packaging. Be sure to read it before you begin. The use of a primer solution does not require special skills. Reading the recommendations of the manufacturer, pay special attention to the range of permissible temperatures. Too high and low temperature values of air do not just harm the composition, but completely render it unsuitable. Overcooling and overheating reduce the adhesion properties several times.

Concrete contact is more common in the sale in finished form. You can start processing the walls, floor or ceiling immediately after returning from the store. Before you start, you should still carefully mix the contents of the bucket. Visually, this soil resembles pastel paint with fine solid patches.Before starting priming work make sure that the room is warm enough (more than +15 degrees).

It is absolutely impossible to apply the composition to frozen walls. Low temperature prevents adhesion of the composition to the surface. After decorative treatment, the primer will simply fall off the wall under the influence of heavy material. If there is a wiring in the wall, be sure to de-energize the room before starting work. Otherwise, the surface can absorb moisture and act as a conductor of electricity.

For applying a primer composition is used:

  • wide brush;
  • wide and narrow spatulas;
  • paint roller.

A wide brush helps to minimize material consumption, and on the roller, on the contrary, a lot of the composition remains. Apply concrete contact evenly over the entire area of the base. If you are working with a surface that absorbs a liquid, then it is better to apply the primer in two layers. You will also have to put the solution again if the base has serious defects and an intricate relief.

Sometimes it makes sense to slightly dilute the primer mixture. To do this, add 50 ml of water to 1 kg of the product. Water should be the same temperature with the air temperature of the room.

How long does it dry?

Concrete contact should be applied to those materials that are poorly absorbed by moisture or do not absorb it at all. So, the primer is used for processing wood, metal, tile, concrete and even for painted surfaces. The period of drying of the soil depends on the level of humidity in the room.

The standard period of complete drying is 2.5-4 hours. Better withstand the maximum time - haste will ruin the positive properties of concrete contact. Experts recommend putting the mixture on the walls in the evening, and the finishing work to begin in the morning. The dried surface attracts dust, so you shouldn’t wait too long. If you are working on the walls in the bathroom, then provide increased ventilation. A stream of fresh air will draw excess moisture from the room. If this is not possible, then leave the material to dry for 24 hours.

There are cases when it is simply not possible to wait for all the necessary period for the complete drying of the primer.

In this case, you will have to do additional work:

  • cover the walls with a primer that penetrates deep into the material;
  • wait for complete drying and proceed to finishing work.

When can I continue working?

Make sure that the concrete contact layer is completely dry. Immediately after this, the surface finishing procedure can be continued. If desired, it is possible to pause for drying a little longer, but it is not recommended to delay the work too much. Dust may settle on the primer, due to which all actions will have to be carried out anew.
