The cladding of a wooden house: the types and stages of installation

Wood is one of the best building materials. From it form both separate elements of designs, and integral buildings. Lack of wood can be considered its rapid drying, which leads to the appearance of cracks. One of the ways to improve wooden housing is the external facing of walls with certain materials. The procedure is performed using various technologies.

What is it for?

Cladding involves applying to the surface of the walls of various materials that completely cover the main frame.

Such operations are used to solve several basic tasks.

  1. Warming of a wooden house. Different types of heaters are used as plating to prevent heat loss. This is one of the main reasons forcing owners to do cladding.
  2. Decorating the walls. Over the years, wood has lost its original attractive appearance. Therefore, the surface of the old walls outside covered with additional materials that change the design of the building.
  3. Base protection. Wood is not able to be in a wet environment for a long time, in conditions of temperature drops. Therefore, the walls of private houses after construction are often closed with an additional protective layer, which is used as a lining. This approach allows to extend the life of the entire building.

Lining features

The formation of the exterior finish can occur with the help of various materials. Facing technology is distinguished by many nuances.

There are several common features that are typical for any option.

  1. Wall decoration is performed after complete shrinkage of the house. This avoids distortions or damage to the decorative coating.
  2. Particular attention is paid to the corners. If you use hinged facades, then to align the points, it is desirable to use metal corners. They allow you to simplify the mounting procedure. It is desirable to use similar elements also when finishing window slopes.
  3. Finishing the foundation is optional. Often it is performed to create the original style of the house. If you need to warm the system, then you should use materials that will easily transfer moisture and temperature drops.
  4. When building ventilated facades, be sure to use vapor barrier. It can easily prevent the penetration of moisture into the house, as well as create the necessary microclimatic conditions within the system. These tools are also used to protect the insulation.
  5. Finishing the foundation of a log house, the first or second floor can be carried out with the help of various materials. The main thing is to take into account the permissible loads on the frame of the house and select the finishing elements on the basis of this parameter.

Material selection

Exterior wall decoration involves attaching various materials to them. Today on the market there are many varieties of such products, differing in design and technical parameters. More often for the lining of wooden houses the owners choose one of the most popular options.

  • Facing brick. They can cover only walls that have been pre-designed for high loads. In another case, the foundation may simply not support the weight of the brick. Among the advantages of such finishing is the possibility of obtaining high-quality insulation. However, the work is complex and durable, so this material is not particularly popular.
  • Plaster. To fix such a substance on the surface of wood is quite difficult. In this case, the materials are incompatible with each other. However, if necessary, the walls are still covered with acrylic or mineral plaster, using a batten and a reinforcing mesh.
  • Tile. For wall decoration, both ordinary porcelain stoneware or ceramics are used, as well as clinker products or options based on cement. The outer surface of the products can be made "under the stone" or can imitate a classic brick.
  • Plastic materials. The classic representatives of this group are vinyl siding and PVC panels. These products are obtained from various types of polymers, which give a certain shape. Positive features of this group of materials can be consideredrelatively small weight, durability and resistance to various destructive factors (moisture, temperature difference, etc.). However, plastic is not able to withstand mechanical loads, so it is quite easy to damage.
  • Thermopanels. This is one of the most popular materials for finishing wooden walls. The advantages and disadvantages of such elements allow us to conclude that they have an optimal balance of strength, durability and quality. The panels are made of polystyrene foam, penoplex or polyurethane, which are covered with a decorative layer on top. The front part of the thermopanel can be made of clinker or marble chips, which allows you to give it a unique design. The advantage of this lining are good thermal insulation performance.
  • Front panels for exterior cladding. The main materials for their production are OSB and LSU. The structure of the substance is very similar to the structure of the previous product. Here too, a decorative tile or artificial stone is glued to the outside of the frame. Installation is carried out only on frame structures, which excludes the use of cement mixtures.
  • Wooden lining. Products of this type may have a different shape and color. A popular option from this group is a block house, which is an imitation of a bar on a decorative surface. Sometimes the walls are protected by ordinary boards that are prepared for such works. When finishing a house with wood, it should be remembered that the material should be further treated with antiseptics and covered with several layers of protective paints or varnishes.
  • Wood composite panels. The basis of such structures is wood chips and special binder polymers. Externally, the products resemble wood, but at the same time they do not burn, resist rotting and damage to various types of insects.
  • Decking. This type of finish is used quite rarely, usually for small buildings. Technically, the professional sheet is easily replaced by a small metal lining, which in its structure is very similar to this product.

Assembly technology

Decorating the walls of a wooden house is not particularly difficult. If desired, all the work can be done by hand.

The sequence of cladding the house cladding consists of several simple steps.

  1. The formation of the frame. As bases for such systems, you can use small wooden bars or metal profile. The second option is universal, since many finishing materials can be attached to the metal. The frame is fixed along the entire perimeter of the walls with a step corresponding to the chosen finish.
  2. Laying insulation. It is placed between the vertical uprights of the frame. Some types of materials need waterproofing, so the bottom and top need to additionally close them with a polymer film. Fixing insulation by using special fasteners.
  3. Fastening finish. Clapboard or siding nailed to vertical supports. For this you can use both nails and screws. Begin the procedure from the bottom, inserting the first bar into the decorative profile. Particular attention should be paid to the windows and doors. Here, the lining will need to be trimmed to get perfectly flat ends.

Decorating walls with bricks also has its own nuances. In this case, it is necessary that the foundation be designed for positioning products near the wall itself.

At installation of such facing it is necessary to adhere to some recommendations.

  1. Before laying a brick foundation covered with roofing material or other waterproofing agent.
  2. The main wall of the house must necessarily communicate with the finishing frame using special anchors. This will provide a unified and robust system.
  3. Laying brick start from the corner of the house. For consistent alignment, use a tensioned cord.

Tips and tricks

The cladding of a wooden house involves the formation of a decorative coating.

To design turned out not only beautiful, but durable, you should follow some recommendations.

        1. When brickwork is necessary to form small holes at the bottom of the structure. This will allow air to circulate, which will create optimal conditions for the operation of both materials. Ventilation must also be present in other finishing systems.
        2. It is advisable to tie brickwork and wooden walls with polymer or galvanized wire. It is flexible and allows the outer wall to respond to uneven shrinkage at home.
        3. Be sure to use special decorative corners or trims. They are mounted on the ends of the wall paneling or siding.Such designs will not allow dust to get inside, and also make the surface more attractive.
