Dimensions of interior doors

Interior doors, in contrast to the entrance, designed to protect the apartment from hacking and penetration, are necessary to divide the internal space of the dwelling into isolated zones. They should be comfortable, moderately durable and fit into the overall interior of the room. This results in the variability of the appearance, the materials from which they can be made, and most importantly - their sizes.

Door Types

The function of interior doors is clearly visible in the title: they divide the rooms inside the apartment. Depending on which rooms are divided by the doors, and the personal preferences of the owner, they are hinged (the most popular and usual option), sliding and folding. Less commonly found tilting mechanisms.

The first two options, in addition to the standard single-door, are one and a half and double. The third and fourth are able to deliver to the tenant, who decided to diversify the interior of his apartment with similar products, a lot of trouble during installation.

Swing

This design is the most standard and common in most domestic apartments. It requires a lot of space, but it is the most simple and reliable and, if necessary, is able to provide absolute tightness to the room.

Sliding

They will be an excellent solution for rooms whose free space is limited. Installed on special wheels (rollers), they move parallel to the wall of the room. Sliding designs are made of various materials - from wood to glass, and, due to their design, are the safest option.

Folding

Pretty exotic design, made in the form of an accordion. It is best suited for wide aisles and takes up quite a lot of space - albeit significantly less than swinging.

Roto-doors

Universal option, suitable for rooms with a small amount of free space. When opened, they protrude from the groove less than half their width. In the closed state, their dimensions are similar to the normal swing model.

The most popular material for production today is wood fiber. This is not surprising, because this material weighs relatively little, it does not shock the likely buyer with its high cost and is quite environmentally friendly.

However, fiberboard is not suitable for entrance doors: low weight, which in the internal space of the apartment becomes the main advantage, in fact clearly demonstrates the fragility of this material.

Another problem with fiberboard is reduced wear resistance. It is important that the product lasts a long time and does not lose its appearance in a few months.

Therefore, it is better to initially purchase a sheet coated with polypropylene:

  • By itself, polypropylene is an environmentally friendly product. This is especially important to modern apartments, the owners of which prefer natural materials in the decoration of their homes.
  • Polypropylene coating is in many ways similar to PVC and laminated coatings. The surface will please the eye with a shiny smooth surface, and polypropylene itself will be an excellent protection against scratches, chips, other mechanical damage and high humidity.

In addition to fiberboard, interior doors are made of solid wood, glass or polymers, but these options will cost much more.

What are the dimensions of the room door leaf?

Today the doors of Russian and European manufacturers are on the market. They differ in size - from 55 to 90 cm in domestic manufacturers and from 60 to 90 cm in foreign ones. Slightly at first glance, but every millimeter is important for proper installation. Fortunately, most manufacturers try to stick to the standard framework.

There are three main parameters that must be considered when choosing an interior door: height, width and thickness.

Standard

Typical dimensions of the canvas fit into some of the framework, although for accurate determination it is still best to carry out an individual measurement in order to avoid mistakes and inaccuracies. The stores are sold as a cloth separately, and together with the box.Such blocks, manufactured in domestic factories, are determined according to GOST.

Despite this, it is much more convenient to immediately buy everything at once with the cashing in than to later engage in assembling the puzzle.

Standard interior door sizes are as follows:

  • The standard height of interior doors is 190 cm, with European manufacturers it sometimes reaches 230 cm.
  • Thickness - this is the parameter, the selection of which is allowed to allow some liberties. It mainly depends on the material from which the fabric is made. It is able to give its character and massiveness to the passage, but at the same time its weight and cost will inevitably increase.
  • The permissible width varies from 60 to 90 cm, depending on the room and on whether a double or single-wing model is installed in it. For example, in the bathroom it is better to choose a narrower sample (minimum - 55 cm), in order to reduce the permeability of moisture. However, too narrow aisles often interfere with the installation of a washing machine and other plumbing equipment in the bathroom.

For large double, one-and-a-half and sliding doors on wheels, the standard ranges from 100 to 180 cm.

When buying, you should pay attention to the manufacturer: as practice shows, the Chinese doors are not inferior in quality to domestic and European manufacturers, but often their price is lower.

Customized

Not always the doorways and consumer desires meet generally accepted standards. Unfortunately, even a large and diverse selection in factories does not always guarantee an easy finding of the desired product. Sometimes the client is able to give up the desire to acquire something unusual, but it also happens that finding a door of unusual size is not a whim, but a necessity. In some cases, the mismatch between the product and the opening (for example, slight differences in height or width) can be easily and fairly easily corrected.

For example, this is easily done if the separately purchased panel is larger than the installed box.

Otherwise, the only way out of the situation will be to make an individual order. The price of such a sample will be higher than the factory by 30-40%, but on the other hand, it will provide an opportunity to purchase a door for your home that is absolutely unique and takes into account all the wishes of the residents.

Typical sizes of half and double models

For large passes, it is not always possible to find a suitable single-leaf product, and sometimes the homeowner wants to diversify the interior of the rooms and something non-standard.

One and a half patterns consist of two canvases of different widths: wide and narrow. The additional narrow part often remains fixed, and is used only if it becomes necessary to bring or remove a large object from the room, for example, a sofa or a wardrobe.

Such designs have a number of advantages, the main of which is the ability to increase the doorway, the visual expansion of space and their unusual and therefore fresh appearance.

However, precisely because of their unusual nature, it is worth taking a careful measurement before purchasing and, if necessary, making a suitable product to order.

Before buying one-and-a-half doors, the passage into which they will be installed must be carefully measured. There are samples of standard dimensions, but if the passage is too large or too narrow, then the sash are made to order.

Typical dimensions of the canvas: width 80-90 cm (wide) and 30 cm (narrow) and height - 200 cm.

Double-wing models will look no less impressive.

These designs help to increase the openings, give the rooms a kind of aristocracy, and the interior - impressive:

  1. The width of their valves is, to a certain extent, individual and averages from 1.2 to 1.5 m (600-750 cm each valve).
  2. The height of such structures does not differ from the typical height of ordinary doors and ranges from 2 to 2.3 m.

For apartments with high ceilings, the height of the aisles can be increased by installing a fixed insert above the flaps, which will become a stylish interior decoration.

Box dimensions

When installing in the doorway of the box, it is necessary to be guided by the same parameters as in the case of the canvas: the width and height in the first place and, sometimes, the thickness. These sizes, as a rule, are determined by the relevant State Standards (for example, GOST 6629-88), but they do not apply to all models, especially for products manufactured abroad. The ratio of the basic quantities of the box and the canvas in cm is given in the table below.

As can be seen from the table, the total measurements of the box compared to the canvas increased by 70 cmbecause small technical clearances should be left between the wall and the mounting lout, which subsequently allow the canvas to freely enter and exit the frame.

At the same time, the thickness of the box and the wall into which it is mounted should be the same, but the width of the opening cannot be higher than this indicator. Otherwise, a box with dimensions greater than the wall thickness will not be firmly fixed.

In connection with the variability of dimensions, the best solution would be to immediately purchase a complete set: linens, boxes and accessories.

Properly installed doors are not only a way to isolate rooms, but also a wonderful piece of furniture that fits well into the overall style of an apartment or cottage.

How to determine?

Before buying or ordering manufacturing interior doors, it is necessary to measure the passageways. If to use state standard specification and other standards, then it is possible to find out the necessary thickness of a panel.

But you still cannot do without careful measurement of all parameters, since GOST often deals with obsolete parameters, and modern manufacturers, following market trends, are increasingly producing models of non-standard sizes.

An important detail that must not be forgotten: a door that is larger than an opening can be reduced, while a product that is too small can not be inserted into the place relying on it.

In order for metering to show the correct results, you need to follow a simple algorithm:

  • Dismantle the old canvas and box in advance;
  • Clean the walls;
  • Take measurements of three measurements.

Armed with a tape measure and an uncomplicated formula, anyone will be able to determine all three dimensions on their own.

Height detection

So, the height will be calculated by a simple formula:

The height of the canvas + one box thickness + indent from the finished floor for free work (10 mm) + indent from the top (3 mm) + indent on the assembly seam (10 mm).

These calculations will not bring any particular trouble even to the owner who is not experienced in repair matters. The main thing is to remain attentive and careful, and carefully record all the obtained measurements.

If it is necessary to find out the values for the model with the lower box beam (threshold), then the formula should be slightly transformed. The final version will look like this:

The height of the blade + two box thicknesses + mounting clearance (10 mm) + indent for free work from above (3 mm) + indent for work from below (5 mm).

Important advice: do not try to artificially reduce the height of the opening, but its increase is permissible, especially for apartments and private houses with high ceilings.

Width detection

To measure the width of the passage, you need to take measurements in three places: below, above and in the middle, and choose the smallest of the three results. It should be remembered that the original dimensions are always amenable to increase or decrease. In the first case, if the size of the increase exceeds 200 cm, it will be necessary to provide the opening with additional supports; in the second, it will be permissible to narrow it to 60-55 cm.

During self-measurement also do not forget that the door should not only sit firmly in the doorway. It should not block access to adjacent rooms and block the aisles.

In addition, it is necessary to take into account the material from which the product will be made. Some materials may swell with time, or vice versa - shrink, so special attention should be paid to the entrance to the bathroom and the kitchen, where humidity and temperature are always elevated. In some cases, it would be wiser to decide on the extension of the passage itself and the installation of a non-standard model to avoid problems in the future.

Thickness determination

As for the thickness, then, as mentioned above, the main thing is that the measurements of the box and the wall coincide, and the values of this parameter should not exceed the thickness of the opening. Approximate thickness for wooden walls - 10 cm, and brick - 7.5.

How to choose a room?

Not every model is suitable for every room. It is necessary to take into account many different factors, starting with the fact that sometimes the dimensions of the passages to different rooms according to the architect's idea differ slightly, and ending with the banal purpose of the room.

For example, such a parameter as width. For the bathroom and toilet, it varies from 55 to 60 cm - a narrow opening should limit the penetration of moisture into the living rooms. In fact, since the dimensions of modern technology, ranging from washing machines to bathtubs and showers, are impressive, in some cases the passage is allowed to be increased to 80 cm.

For the kitchen, a passage of approximately 70 cm will be standard, and about 80 cm for living rooms.

An important role in the selection of a particular model in a given room is played by the material from which it is made:

  • Due to its lightness, PVC constructions are best suited for rooms in which traumatic situations often occur directly connected with doors. This is a kitchen where a lot of people can accumulate, and a carelessly open sash can strike someone; bathroom and toilet, which go directly into the corridor, increasing the probability of hitting a passing person; children.
  • Glassware weighs much more - up to 25 kg. They look spectacular, for example, in the living room, separating it from the space of the rest of the house, and also merging well into the interior of the kitchen, separating it from the dining room.
  • The most difficult are models from a tree, which models are best of all infused into the atmosphere of a cabinet or library.

As for typical multi-storey buildings, in them, in order to accelerate the pace of construction, starting from “Khrushchev’s” apartments, the openings are greatly standardized and remain the same in all rooms. If there is no desire to arrange a major overhaul, then the output can be samples from fiberboard and its analogues.

They are a universal and most budgetary option that will allow the owner to preserve the integrity of the interior of the apartment entirely.

The greatest freedom of action in terms of the choice of interior doors are residents of the private sector. For a private house, it is easy to choose an absolutely unique design of products that does not depend on any standards and GOSTs, the whole construction will depend entirely on the personal preferences and imagination of the residents.

The only drawback: the structures in this case will have to be made to order and, accordingly, at a higher price.

Examples and options

In the living room best suited advanced models, made by special order. As an option, there will be interesting sliding doors, double doors and one and a half patterns.

For the bedroom, both adult and child, usually opaque deaf products are chosen, which do not let light into the room from the corridor and drown out external sounds. Ideal is the situation in which the open door will be parallel to the wall - this will help save a lot of space.

Usually in the bedrooms do not use very large doors, but in some cases they become a bright decorative element. For example, the model for the bedroom in the attic, custom-made and having the form of an irregular trapezoid or ellipse. Not only will this make the room look unique, it will also help save space, since, due to its irregular shape, such patterns will be less than their more common counterparts.

Another option - the design of one or more leaves, turning around its axis. They can occupy more space, but will fit into those rooms in which it is necessary to leave space near the walls free.

Another kind of interior design: installation for different rooms of doors, made in the same design. They can vary in size, but they can be made of similar materials and in the same color scheme. This will help preserve the stylistic integrity of the house.

In addition, the doors, made in bright colors, in addition to its main function, can become a bright decorative element.

Massive wood products perfectly fit into the design of the office, give it a distinctive sophistication and a sense of antiquity. On the contrary, metal and glass are suitable for modern, made in modern style or high-tech premises.
