Trim entrance doors

 Trim entrance doors

After repair, many owners say that it is necessary to update some elements of the interior. Often updates require entry doors. Some designs should simply be replaced, and some quite successfully can be given a new life. Thus, you will not only hide all existing surface defects, but also decorate your interior.

Interior lining

For interior doors are used a variety of materials.

MDF

MDF cooker is widespread, thanks to its good performance, good appearance and affordable price. This material is presented today in several versions:

  • Painted. It is used for interior decoration of doors.
  • Veneered. Differs in the increased resistance to the atmospheric phenomena. For finishing use such breeds of a tree, as an oak, a birch and more expensive options (a beech, red wood, an ash-tree).
  • Laminated. Differs in good moisture resistance and durability. The material is characterized by a heterogeneous multi-layer structure, where the top layer is decorative, and the bottom is the substrate.

MDF has the following positive qualities:

  • easy to mount on the door;
  • has an environmentally friendly composition;
  • has good strength;
  • strengthens heat insulation;
  • improves noise insulation;
  • has a wide selection of different textures and colors of the front surface;
  • easy to maintain.

The negative aspects of the material include:

  • easily damaged by abrasive machining;
  • weak moisture resistance;
  • price is above average.

To self-trim the door of MDF panels, you first need to:

  • make accurate measurements of the size of the door;
  • buy a panel and immediately cut it to the size of the door in a shop if the company provides such a service or take it to a workshop specializing in such works.

The process of finishing the doors with MDF panels consists of the following steps:

  • The door is removed from the hinges, accessories are removed.
  • Cleaning of a working surface from the previous finishing, elimination of dust and small pieces of matter, degreasing.
  • A primer is applied to increase adhesion between the door, glue and the finishing sheet.
  • Glue is applied on the edge of the entire door and in the middle.
  • The panel is applied and pressed flat. It is possible to fix the sheet so that it does not move out, by means of masking tape that does not leave marks. The door is left for time to dry the glue.
  • When two-sided finishing MDF panels, the operation is repeated similarly for the second side.
  • After the glue dries, the door is installed back on the hinges, the fittings return to the place.

Laminate

To finish the door is used ordinary floor laminate. This coating is similar in its qualities to MDF, but it is produced using a different technology and has a different composition.

The structure of the laminate plate is as follows:

  • base of wood;
  • wood fiberboard;
  • several layers of special paper with a printed pattern;
  • protective film.

The positive qualities of laminate include:

  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • durability;
  • usability;
  • aesthetic look.

The disadvantages include high cost.

The process of veneering laminate occurs in this order:

  • With the door removed all accessories are removed.
  • A wooden frame is made of wooden slats with a section of 20x20 or 30x30 mm, the structure is attached to the door leaf by means of “liquid nails”.
  • Reiki along the perimeter will be visible, so it is better to choose them according to the color of the laminate or paint the same color.
  • Laminate is interconnected so as to create a single plane that will be attached to the door.
  • The frame of the rails is superimposed on the laminate shield, points of contact with the slats are marked.
  • Excess shield protruding beyond the dimensions of the door is sawn off, holes are cut for the peephole, the handle and the keyhole.
  • A rack frame is mounted on the door; voids can be filled with heat and / or noise insulating materials, for example, foam plastic or mineral wool.
  • The laminate shield on the markup is smeared with glue and pressed against the rack frame; during the drying of the glue, the weight should be placed on top, distributed across the width so as not to push the laminate.
  • After the glue dries, the fittings are mounted in place, the door is hung on the hinges.

Siding, siding

Finishing material produced from various wood species or plastic varieties is produced in the form of lamellae. Lining is similar in quality to wood, but more affordable financially.

Treat positive qualities of lining:

  • good appearance;
  • excellent heat and noise insulation;
  • strength, especially in dies made of oak, larch and other durable species.

The negative aspects include:

  • low moisture resistance, can be improved by impregnation with special additives;
  • Good flammability, can also be reduced by impregnation.

Facing clapboard occurs on the same plan as the laminate. There is an option to make a decorative pattern from a panel of small size and different colors. In this case, the assembled shield is attached to a thin sheet of OSB, and the sheet - to the frame of the rails.

Artificial leather

A material called “vinyl artificial leather” is used, replacing leatherette in this niche due to its higher performance and protective properties. It features an improved appearance, very similar to natural leather.

The positive characteristics of the vinyl leather include the following characteristics:

  • relatively inexpensive material;
  • high moisture resistance;
  • resistance to temperature fluctuations;
  • nice, aesthetic appearance of the texture;
  • high elasticity;
  • convenient and undemanding in operation material;
  • good wear resistance;
  • improves noise and heat insulation of the door;
  • large selection of textures and colors.

The negative points include low strength; due to the external attractiveness for pets gives a quick loss of aesthetic qualities.

Finishing of the door of vinyl artificial leather consists of the following stages:

  • Removes the previous finish, for example, with a spatula or other tool, the surface is cleaned.
  • Glue is applied around the perimeter and in separate, evenly distributed areas over the entire plane.
  • Insulation is applied (almost necessarily, if the door is iron), is fixed until the glue dries, after that the excess insulation is cut off.
  • Vinyl artificial leather is cut with a margin: 12 cm wider than the size of the door.
  • The glue is applied around the perimeter, but from the inside, so that the outside of the door is completely covered with vinyl-leather cloth, and the elongated edges are wide (+12 cm) turned inside.
  • When applying the material, you need to start from the top of the center of the door and move down and to the edges, leveling the emerging "waves".
  • The bottom of the door is glued at the end.
  • After the glue dries out, the vinyl artificial leather is cut off, and holes for the peephole, the handle and the keyhole are cut in the canvas.

Coloring

A good option for quick and inexpensive door decoration. Improves appearance and does not require special skills. The following types of paint are used for painting doors:

  • Nitroen. The positive aspects of this paint are corrosion protection and aesthetic brilliant color. The disadvantages include fragility, poor resistance to temperature fluctuations, strong odor. Poor for painting doors directly on the street, for example, in a private house.
  • Alkyd enamel. Excellent paint based on alkyd resins with a large number of positive qualities, such as high resistance to aggressive environment, durability to mechanical loads. The service life of about 4 years, dries quickly, resistant to fading.
  • Acrylic paint. It has the same positive properties as alkyd enamel, moreover, does not contain toxic substances. Very resistant to aggressive environment.
  • Powder paint. Premium version with excellent performance and aesthetic qualities, the only negative: painting is done only in special workshops. High resistance to any sources of negative impact.

The positive aspects of staining include:

  • ease of finishing;
  • low price;
  • any colors and shades of finish.

The relative disadvantages include:

  • do not enhance noise insulation in comparison with MDF, laminate, clapboard, vinyl leather;
  • do not increase thermal insulation;
  • Some paints contain toxic substances.

The negative aspects include:

  • high price, varies greatly from the type of wood, especially its rarity;
  • good flammability, can be reduced by special impregnation;
  • significant weight gain, loops can be replaced;
  • poor moisture resistance, can be increased by appropriate impregnation.

To qualitatively paint the door, you need to do the following:

  • thoroughly clean the door surface from the old finish with a spatula or other suitable tool;
  • wipe off dust, remove any pieces of matter, degrease;
  • apply primer;
  • neatly and in small portions apply paint with a roller or brush layer by layer, it is not necessary to paint everything in one run;
  • It is possible to overlay a decorative pattern or stencil to create a unique pattern using different colors.

Pasting

The easiest option to refresh the appearance of the door is a self-adhesive film. Does not add any operational advantages or disadvantages to the door. Before gluing, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. If there are dents, chips, bumps, then they need to be sanded or puttied. It is more convenient and better to glue from top to bottom, not hurrying, so that “waves” are not obtained.

Solid wood

This type of finishing materials belongs to the premium class. Able to create a unique, exclusive appearance of the front door. It has a large number of advantages.

The positive qualities of wood include:

  • the naturalness of the raw material determines its hypoallergenicity;
  • a wide range of patterns (textures) and colors;
  • good noise and heat insulation;
  • gorgeous and elegant appearance;
  • strength and durability, varies from wood type;
  • additional qualities can be given with the help of various impregnations.

The design of the box and interdoor space can be varied.You can decorate the inside of the door leaf as a decorative stone, siding, laminated chipboard, eurolining, and elevate tiles or use drywall.

The lining of the apartment door can be made of metal. You can also paste the door with veneer, sheathe the laminate, glue leatherette. Hauling leatherette, as a decorating technique, has been known for a very long time, as well as finishing with carpet, linoleum or iron sheet.

You can update the appearance of old wooden or wooden door frames by various means, including upholstery, the choice is yours.

Warming

Metal doors are made on the frame-edge scheme. Inside they have cavities that are well suited for filling with insulated special materials.

For this purpose the following materials can be used:

  • Styrofoam;
  • mineral wool;
  • izolon sufficient thickness;
  • polyurethane foam and other insulation.

The scheme of foam insulation is to gradually fill the cavities, namely:

  • prepare the material, cutting it into pieces, corresponding to the size of the intercostal cells;
  • polyurethane foam is applied to the metal edges at the joints with insulation around the perimeter andon the inner plane of the door in 2-3 strips;
  • a piece of foam is gently inserted into the cavity and pressed down;
  • the process is repeated with all the cells in the same way, except for the one where the door lock is installed, for it you need to cut the corresponding opening in the sheet, you should not completely skip the cell, this will create a large cold bridge.

Options for cashing outside the street door after its installation

For outdoor decoration the most important criterion is resistance to atmospheric phenomena, if the door goes directly to the street. If it is an entrance door, then moisture resistance and resistance to temperature fluctuations are important in most cases. Thus, good options for outdoor door cashing are:

  • Steel sheet. May have a different level of stability, depending on the specific alloy. Appearance is improved by various decorative means, for example, by coloring. At imposing of a leaf laying from a stopper or other material is surely used. This will improve the heat and sound insulation of the door. The material is highly resistant to mechanical damage, vibration, and atmospheric phenomena.
  • Lining, siding. This material can be used under the condition of impregnation with special additives that enhance the moisture resistance and resistance to temperature fluctuations.
  • Coloring. Only types of paints resistant to moisture and temperature fluctuations are used.
  • Viniplast. Material based on PVC or fiberboard. Possesses excellent operational qualities, the only negative is the instability to ultraviolet, can be leveled by opening the surface with a special varnish.
  • Ship plywood. Visually similar to a wooden array. It is easy to use, has good aesthetic and operational qualities.
  • Artificial leather. Good choice for a reasonable price. Due to its positive performance, it is used for internal and external decoration.

For decorative decoration of the outer side of the door, you can use special linings made of different materials.

How can you decorate?

The decoration of a framed or smooth entrance door can be very different. For example, in order to restore the old door and give it an original look, you can use the decoupage technique.The essence of the method is the application of the image on the door surface on a paper or fabric basis by means of gluing.

In order to decorate the door with decoupage, the following materials are used:

  • The cloth. Variants using different fabrics will give a unique look to your door and can be created based on the material you already have.
  • Images on paper. The drawing is limited only by imagination and time of searching on the Internet or by creating it in a graphic editor. Ornaments are printed using a printer, it is important to use thin paper, it will simplify further work on the application.
  • Paper napkins. Received a wide distribution, on sale there is a large selection of different patterns that will become the face of the door surface.
  • Special decoupage cards. Sold ready with a variety of patterns and plots. Convenient in the process of application.

In decoupage there are several basic options for tiling a canvas with a pattern (pattern):

  • patterns located at a certain distance from each other, fantasy plays a large role here;
  • centralized composition with a void around the perimeter;
  • uniform continuous drawing on a cloth;
  • framing of panels;
  • complex compositional drawings.

Beautiful and interesting design ideas

Door mirror is not only beautiful, but also functional option. The simplest design idea. Visually increases the space, and also frees up the space near the wall. A special option may be to install a second mirror opposite the door, if it is located at a short distance.

This will create the effect of optical recursion - an infinite repetition of diminishing reflection that goes deep into the mirror. Before going outside, you can always look at your appearance and appreciate it.

Inset frosted glass with overlay forging as a lattice. This option will increase the external attractiveness of the door, increase the access of light to the room and view the street from the inside to find people near the exit. Forging on the door is used for a long time and is always at the peak of popularity.

Coloring with mirror paint. The use of high quality paints such as Fine Paints will create an irresistible look at the entrance to the cottage. This is an innovative material that has proven itself from the good side and proved its durability.
