Embedded in brick pillars for the gate: how to choose and install?

Gates in any private (and not only) house must reliably protect against outside intrusion. They must also be beautiful in appearance. But both of these requirements cannot be fulfilled if the supports deviate from the ideal vertical, and this largely depends on the availability and correctness of the installation of mortgages.

What are they?

Brick fences can look very beautiful. But the smooth, externally elegant pillar is bad in that nothing can be attached to it, and therefore the installation of the gate directly into the brick massif is impossible. They simply do not hold out and fall. That is why mortgages are provided for in brick pillars so that they can be used to install gates.

There are many types of such elements. But each of them solves a strictly defined problem. We must immediately take into account the material from which it is planned to build sections of the fence itself. If solid brickwork is used for it, then the mortgage elements are designed only to connect sections with pillars.

In this case, the load on the structure is relatively small, so even the loops twisted from a wire with a diameter of 0.8 cm will be able to complete the task. They are laid every 3 rows (in the fourth line of masonry). This is done on the side of the pillar where the brick sections are to be attached. Such a decision repeatedly proved itself in a variety of conditions. But it is unacceptable if the sections of the fence are made of profile metal, timber and other materials.

In these cases, mortgages must withstand the increased load, because the pillars will no longer take it upon themselves. Because you have to use plates of steel. These structures are welded at a certain height (depending on the project), but folding connections can also be used. The brick will have to be sawn in a certain place so that the mortgage passes there.

Later on the lags by welding attach lags. And these lags just allow you to mount various structural elements of the fence. But even when mortgages and lags are made, the sections should not be fixed immediately. It is necessary to wait for the posts to gain a certain strength and only then proceed to the final assembly. Usually have to wait 18-25 days.

Design features

For sliding gates

Installing sliding gates, it makes no sense to look for drawings of embedded elements, they simply do not exist. Geometry and dimensions are chosen arbitrarily, because only one task should be solved: the creation of a base for the installation of rollers and a drive mechanism. Mortgages are usually made from channels with numbers 10-20. There is a clear rule: the severity of the gate increases - a larger metal rolling is required.

Take into account that the place for the engine must be provided for this line in the yard. In order not to be mistaken, it is worth making the mortgage element equal in length to the “counterweight” of the gate.

Important note: the mortgage is placed strictly on a straight line, which will move the canvas.

Sometimes it can be less, but a maximum of 20 cm. If you plan to install a drive with an electric motor later,The site for its installation is welded to the mortgage in an arbitrarily chosen location. But some builders do differently. At the time of the construction of the gate, they are not preparing any basis for the motor. Only then, when it is assembled, is a steel plate facing the top of the mortgage welded to the side a little.

For the gate

The approach to such mortgages is somewhat different than to the elements holding the sliding gates. No need to insert rods inside brick pillars. It is required to put them directly next to the supports, driving them into the ground. When this work is completed, the channel is welded.

Since the wickets are much easier than ordinary gates, mortgages should not be too massive either. But it is recommended to deepen the supports into the soil, then they will be more reliable.

It is important: you can simplify the installation of the structure by immediately piercing holes in the channel for embedded elements.

For large gates, with high pillars, it is not enough to install vertical channels around both halves. Below they are sealed by the third channel, the length of which must coincide with the distance from the pillars to the gate.

You can often find statements that you can weld mortgages to steel strips protruding from pillars. But in reality, these miniature projections cannot even hold a small gate. In the case of swinging gates, mortgages of metal from 5 to 7 cm are welded to the central posts of the posts. This is quite enough for automatic structures, if they do not prove to be too heavy.

Additional recommendations on the selection and installation:

  • For heavy swing gates, I-beams or rails can be welded between the posts. It will be more reliable if you do it with braces, and on the other hand, weld additional beams.
  • In the absence of experience, it is better not to try to hide mortgages, and then bring them outside, it is extremely difficult.
  • It is more correct to hammer (screw in) a metal product through an opening prepared by a special tool.
  • The holes in the brick are made at an angle of 45 degrees (deviation is acceptable, but small, otherwise the brick will crack).
