Bulk floor Knauf: subtleties of choice and characteristics

Now when carrying out repair work in premises of various purposes, newer innovative materials are increasingly being used. They reduce labor costs, speeding up repair time. One of these materials is the self-leveling floor Knauf.

What it is?

Bulk floor Knauf is designed for rough finishing. This building material helps to prepare the base for further laying any floor covering, making the floor level and durable. Despite the fact that the screed is not visible, it plays a very important role.

The use of this material allows laying any covering correctly and quickly: if a parquet or laminate was chosen, then it will not creak, bend or be subjected to additional loads due to the unevenness of the base; if the lining material is linoleum, it will not bubble or, on the contrary, waste in uneven ground.

In addition, due to the self-leveling floor, the shrinkage of the building passes without consequences for the main flooring, and the loads from heavy furnishings are not so intense, which allows the finish to retain its appearance for a long time.

Despite the fact that most of the products of this type are based on gypsum, according to their operational characteristics, the resulting base is quite durable and carries heavy loads even in warehouse premises. Knauf self-leveling floor is applied to the floor in liquid form, spreads over the surface, thereby leveling the base.

About the manufacturer

Knauf is a well-known Russian company that manufactures various building materials. It was originally established as a gypsum processing plant, but now it is the largest group of companies offering dry mixes for finishing and insulation of a room.

The quality of products of this manufacturer is beyond praise. Goods may well compete with foreign counterparts. Among the diversity of the range you can find a system of self-leveling floors of several types.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Knauf floor has several advantages.

  • It has high quality that meets Russian and European product requirements.
  • Knauf self-leveling floor is leveled by itself, and additional devices for leveling the solution are not needed. It is enough to walk on it with a needle roller and release air bubbles that were formed when the room was filled with the mixture.
  • The time spent on the floor screed is minimal, it is about 40 minutes.
  • Walking on this basis can be after 6 hours.
  • The material does not shrink, does not crack after drying.
  • The resulting base is strong enough.
  • This building material can be classified as environmentally friendly. It is almost entirely made from natural ingredients, does not have a harmful effect on human health.

The disadvantages of self-leveling floors of this manufacturer can be attributed only to the fact that they are quite expensive, but the convenience that this product provides during the finishing works completely eliminates this defect.

How to choose?

The choice of Knauf floor depends on several factors.

  • The reason why the base is leveled. If you need to hide the laid pipes or other technical details, then you need to choose a mixture with polystyrene granules. If heated floors are poured, then a heat-resistant mixture should be preferred. If it is necessary to simply prepare the base before laying the floor covering, the choice is determined by the unevenness of the floor and the thickness of the necessary layer for its alignment.
  • The humidity of the room. So, for the bathroom it is recommended to choose waterproof self-leveling floors, which are not afraid of splashing water and constant exposure to high humidity.

Kinds

Knauf company produces a bulk floor of several types.

  • Tribon. This is one of the most sought-after products of this company. It is a universal self-venting and self-leveling plaster-based self-leveling floor, suitable for both manual pouring and for working with special machines. Tribon can even be used to tie floors in wooden houses. The composition in the period of operation does not emit moisture, and therefore does not spoil the wood.
  • Boden 30 and Boden 25. These products are designed specifically for leveling the base under the "warm floor".The main binder is gypsum. Materials do not crack and do not crumble when exposed to high temperatures.

The number following the product name indicates the maximum layer thickness that can be created with the selected mixture.

  • Boden 15. Plaster thin-layer screed is designed for finishing alignment. Its layer can be as small as 2 mm, with a maximum thickness of only 15 mm.
  • Ubo. This option is made of a mixture of cement and polystyrene balls. So, Ubo allows you to align the base with a large number of laid cables, pipes and other systems. It has high sound and heat insulation. It is required to lay Knauf dry gypsum-fiber precast floors over this coating or make an additional screed with a minimum thickness of 35 mm.

Reviews

Reviews of Knauf self-leveling floors are pretty good. Buyers talk about the high quality of products, ease of use, rapid leveling of the base without any extra effort on the part of workers. But there are also negative responses. It is said that the cost of self-leveling floors is unreasonably high, and the strength of such a screed is very doubtful.
