Tile laying tools

Finishing tile today is the main material that allows to form not only a beautiful, but durable surface. The installation of this material is a time consuming and lengthy process, requiring specific skills. Particular attention should be paid to tools for laying tiles. With their help, you can greatly simplify this task.

Base leveling

In most cases, ceramic tiles are mounted on a pre-leveled surface. This approach can significantly reduce the consumption of adhesive. To solve these problems use several devices:

  • A set of spatulas. In most cases, you need flat metal products with which you can easily level the plaster on the surface. The size of the tool is selected individually and depends only on the amount of work.
  • Level and plummet With the help of these devices line the walls and ceiling. This allows you to achieve a strictly vertical or horizontal location of the base.
  • Rule and needle roller. Such products are intended for leveling concrete on the floor. Roller often expel air from the cement screed, so that it is distributed evenly.
  • Electric mixer It is used for the preparation of cement mortars. Apply in most cases when the volume of work is significant and you need to quickly get a quality mixture. There are several types of such devices that can be selected to suit your needs.

Cutting tools

In most cases, tile laying is performed in rooms that have non-standard dimensions. Therefore, it is almost impossible to select the optimal size of elements in such a way as to exclude trimming. Another problem during installation may be pipes, which are desirable to beautifully bypass tiles.

Cutting tile or porcelain tiles can be done using varioustools:

  • Glass cutter The mechanism is suitable only for tiles, as it is of low strength. Using a glass cutter, you can cut pieces of a rectangular shape. Getting a more complex structure is very difficult.
  • Tile cutter. These mechanisms are divided into manual and electric. The first type works on the principle of a glass cutter. Initially, the tile is inserted into a special groove, and then pass through it with a knife. To separate the cut element, it must be broken along the edge of the table. Electric tile cutters are more versatile. Many models are equipped with a special circular saw that can cut tiles more efficiently. It is possible to apply such modifications with porcelain stoneware.
  • Bulgarian. This tool is almost every owner. Cutting tiles is done using a diamond wheel, which easily cuts both ceramics and natural stone. With a great desire with the help of the grinder, you can get complex cutting, giving the tile a different shape. But the quality of these figures will not be high, so it is used only in those places where the tile is hidden.
  • Jigsaw. In order for the device to cut the tile, it must be equipped with a thread with a sprayed diamond grit. Jigsaw destroys material in a straight line and at angles. The disadvantage of this approach is the relatively low strength of the working tool.

If during operation you strongly press on the thread, you will have to change it to a new one, as it will burst.

Particular attention should be paid to the drilling tool. When laying tiles you may need to cut a round hole under the pipe or toilet. This can be done using various drills for the drill:

  1. Pobeditovy tool. Drills of this type do a good job with ceramic tiles, but are not suitable for porcelain stoneware. A properly selected drill bit can drill holes in both the finish and the concrete. This is important when you need to get a hole for the dowel.
  2. Diamond tube drills. This tool is a small cylinders, on the surface of which diamond chips are soldered. Drills do an excellent job with any kind of tile, but they are not always used because they are expensive.
  3. Diamond crowns. They differ from previous versions only in large diameter.Apply them to the formation of holes for sockets or piping.

Installation

The technology of laying tiles in all cases involves gluing it on a special glue. To work should stock up a set of spatulas:

  1. Straight. For laying use different sizes of spatulas. A small product is good to take glue and put it on the wall. Overall models are designed to level the mixture in order to obtain a uniform coating.
  2. Notched Apply this modification almost always. Its main task is to form peculiar grooves on the surface of the solution. They allow you to evenly glue the tile, minimizing the risk of splitting during operation. Notched spatulas differ in the height of the teeth, which are responsible for the depth of the furrow.
  3. Rubber. A spatula of such a substance is used when grouting. The product has a soft and plastic tip, with which you can easily put the trowel mixture between the tiles.

Alignment

The quality of the floor or wall surface depends on how smoothly the tile is relative to each other.Experts recommend to pay attention to this feature when laying this material.

To simplify this task, you can use various auxiliary tools:

  • Kiyanka It is advisable to use rubber hammers, as they do not affect the structure of the tile. If it is not possible to purchase such products, then you can replace them with wooden counterparts. Do not use metal hammers for leveling, as even with a slight impact, spalling may form on the tile surface.
  • Level. It is best to use long modifications, as they allow you to assess the quality of the laying between several tiles. Adjustment with a level must be carried out in different planes. Today, classical modifications are replaced by laser ones, which allow for higher accuracy of the masonry.
  • Tile leveling systems. There were these designs quite recently, but already managed to gain popularity both from experts, and from fans. These products are a specialized set of several pegs, wedges and other original tools that simplify the alignment of the tiles.
  • Crosses. Today it is the most popular tile leveling products. Make them from various types of plastic. To fit, they are inserted between adjacent elements so that they cannot close to each other.

Finishing

Laying any tile is completed by filling the joints with special mixtures. In most cases, they are only decorative. The modern market offers many types of such solutions that can be matched to the color of the floor covering.

If the area of the laid tiles is small, then you can fill all the seams with your hands. To do this, the prepared solution is rubbed with fingertips between the products. But in most cases for this purpose use several auxiliary devices:

  1. Rubber spatula. For rubbing the grout it is placed on the tip of this tool and gently pressed. This process can occur in several stages until all the gaps are filled evenly.
  2. Plastic tube It is used when you need to get a semicircular seam. At home, many craftsmen use for this purpose a piece of ordinary electrical cable. It is important only to choose the diameter of the wire so that it goes inside the seam.
  3. Construction syringe. At the end of this device there is a small tube with holes of different diameters. When filling the seam, it is placed between the tiles and gradually moves. Well suited for working with materials from natural stone, as well as for grouting based on epoxy resin.

The tool for laying tiles is not particularly difficult to operate. It is available in almost any hardware store, where you should select only quality products.
