Heating mats for tiles: laying technology

Laying tiles on the floor, people started from ancient times. Later, the tile changed to porcelain. But these two types of tiles have one common drawback - they are cold. It is unpleasant to stand with your feet on a cold surface, especially after taking a shower when your feet are wet.

Many people think about how to make the floor warmer. The exit is seen in the electric warm floor. The best option would be heating mats under the tile. This option is a warm floor and the most popular in our time. The reason for the popularity - ease of installation.

Thermocable already laid in a mesh of fiberglass, the worker simply spread the canvas on the desired surface.

Species

There are two main types of mats: cable and infrared.

  • Cable heating mats. They are based on a single or two-wire cable, which is located on the snake net. For ease of installation, part of the manufacturers apply adhesive material to the bottom surface of the mats. The mat itself is heated by heat, which is emitted by the conductor due to the electric current. The accumulation of heat near the floor is formed, and the heat exchange raises the warm air upwards. As a result, warm floor and uniform temperature throughout the room.
  • Infrared mats are also sold in rolls. Consist of carbon rods that are attached to thin wires. The substrate is missing, but the wires give rigidity to the structure, so the installation process does not turn into a test. These rods emit infrared waves that heat the floor and transfer heat to the room.

Advantages of heating mats

The effectiveness of the use of these systems has been proven not only by research, but also by the experience of those who have already installed heating mats in their homes.

The advantages include:

  • ease of installation;
  • the ability to cut mats into pieces of the required sizes;
  • the thermostat is under the floor that does not increase the height of the floor;
  • easy and quick calculation of the material;
  • all parts are made from environmentally friendly materials;
  • the heating cable is already fixed, you do not have to count the steps in order to properly lay it;
  • temperature adjustment;
  • quick floor heating.

Connecting heating mats

When doing this work on your own, remember the following:

  • Systems need a thermostat. With it, not only can you adjust the temperature, with intensive heating, it automatically lowers it to avoid overheating of the cable and the occurrence of a short circuit. At low constant temperatures, it can be hidden under the floor covering, but experts advise placing it on a wall to a height of 30-100 cm from the floor;
  • With a small area of the mat (up to 10 sq. M) it can be connected to the nearest outlet. With a large area, the cable is brought to a separate automatic device for protection;
  • If there is a temperature sensor, it is necessary to make a gate for the signal cable. The wire is laid in the corrugation, the free end is jammed and insulated. This is done to protect against moisture;
  • The heating mat has one or two cold ends. They are cut to the desired length during installation, lead and connect to the junction box. From the junction box is an external power system;
  • It is possible to change the shape of the mat itself. To do this, it is necessary to cut the reinforcing mesh without disturbing the integrity of the heating cable. It is better to bend the mats at an angle of up to 90 degrees;
  • Laying mat is allowed in those places where there will be low furniture. It is also necessary to observe a distance of 15 cm from the walls. In those places where the furniture with legs from 10 cm is planned, it is allowed to install heated floors;
  • After installation, the system must be connected and checked. It turns on for 10-15 minutes and with sufficient warm-up is considered to be connected successfully;
  • After completing all the above steps, you can proceed to laying tiles. To protect against mechanical damage and possible damage, cover the entire area between the cables with a layer of tile adhesive;
  • After the glue dries, it is necessary to turn on and check the system again;
  • This is followed by the laying of the coating. It is necessary to lay ceramic tiles using standard technology directly on the mats.It must be remembered that it is impossible to turn on heated floors exactly until everything dries.

A wide range of different systems of warm floors always allows you to make a competent choice. However, it is necessary to correctly apply the knowledge about the installation of heating mats so that their work brings only heat and carelessness, and not painful analysis of floors and tiles. Laying such a floor, you should remember that the electricity bills will be a little, but more.
