Tile size of 20 to 30: the subtleties of choice

When planning repairs, we have to face the problem of choosing a facing material, the dimensions of which play an important role. So, the sizes of ceramic tiles are especially important, often buyers are interested in a variety of 20x30 cm, so in this article we will deal with the subtleties of choosing a facing material of this size.

Features and specifications

This tile size today is one of the standard and common. It allows you to significantly simplify the finishing of surfaces: large varieties glue harder because of the weight.

Material trimming is also important: a fragment parameter of 20 by 30 cm is convenient in that in most cases there is not a lot of residues left during trimming. This allows significant savings on the purchase of material, even taking into account additionalpercent on possible marriage during transportation and pruning.

The characteristics of the facing material depend on the type of tile. Due to the demand for the size of modern brands offer the attention of the buyer wall and floor cladding. Wall view complement the border.

The difference in purpose is explained by the thickness of the fragments and the level of the maximum permissible weight and mechanical load. Externally, floor tiles are thicker.

If the variety does not have icing, it is thinner.

Fragments of wall tiles without glaze 20 by 30 cm in thickness are 7-9 mm. Most often they are used for lining the kitchen apron. The weight of the floor tile is more, which indicates a higher resistance to abrasion.

The thickness of the layer with an average of 8-10 mm. The weight of each variety is subject to the developed GOST: for a tiled wall version it is 12-14 kg per square meter. Glazed floor tiles of 200x300 mm weigh an average of 16 kg per square meter. m

Payment

Exact calculation will allow you to buy the exact amount of raw materials for finishing. Tiled material is considered not by the piece, but by square meters. To do this, find the area of one fragment.

The calculation is quite simple:

  • convert dimensions to meters (0.2 width, 0.3 height);
  • multiply the length by the width (03, * 0.2 = 0.06 m);
  • divide 1 square meter per tile area (1: 0.06 = 16.66 m).

It turns out that for 1 m2 there are 17 pieces of tiles with a size of 200x300 mm. Knowing this and the number of fragments in a box, one can calculate the total amount of facing material. To understand how much is needed in each particular case, it remains to substitute in place of unit the size of the quadrature of the required area. To do this, measure the length and width of the plot for laying and multiply (for example, 2x4 = 8 m2, then the total consumption will be as follows: 8: 0.06 = 133.3 or 134 fragments).

How many per pack?

To date, the number of tiles in the package may be different. It depends on the standards of the manufacturer, taking into account the distance of transportation and the thickness of the material. The greater the thickness of identical fragments, the smaller they are in the package.

Standards of companies from different countries differ: some brands put a larger amount of lining in the packaging, others make sure that the goods do not break during delivery to the store counter.

In one box is placed 24 tiles of size 20x30 cm. This is enough for a surface treatment of 1.5 square meters. m. without marriage. The weight of the box is 17 kg or more.

Color solutions

To date, this material is presented in a wide range. Due to this color solutions are multifaceted. As a rule, among them there are no excessively acidic and screaming tones: all tones are soft and pleasing to the eyes.

The focus of the pastel shades and natural range. The first one includes beige, dairy, cream, light pink, bleached-blue tones, diluted pistachio and olive colors.

Not less interesting textures for wood and marble. These fragments are made in brown, brick, sand, terracotta, light and dark shades of wenge oak.

The popular colors of the palette are peach, cornflower blue, emerald, and mint tones. The drawings are diverse: they can be effects of aging of the surface (cracks), butterflies, sea and beach themes, curls, laces, single monograms.

Geometric prints and mosaic patterns are equally popular.

How to choose?

The choice of material depends on the order factors.

We list the main ones:

  • The material for wall cladding is also not designed for the floor, as floor tiles are not suitable for walls: non-compliance with this criterion will complicate the installation, reduce the durability of the coating.
  • Raw materials are purchased by carrying out a preliminary calculation, adding a few pieces to the resulting number of fragments (in the process of work, marriage is not excluded).
  • Color matters: it should fit into the overall picture of the room, without interrupting the main background of the interior.
  • When choosing a picture, they take into account the size and theme: a small print on a general background creates ripples (it is better to replace a cage, a strip, or a mat with abstract stains).
  • Laying the surface in a single-color version is good for the floor, for the walls an accent is needed: it is worth buying a companion with a pattern to the material.
  • If possible, it is necessary to calibrate before buying: if the thickness and flawlessness of the corners leave something to be desired, this material does not work (the surface of the finished canvas may vary in level).
  • Each type of raw material has its own classification, which is indicated on the packaging. Try to choose a product with a red mark: this tile is durable and practical.
  • It makes sense to take practical material: in the priority of the surface with an interesting texture and pattern. This is not necessarily a colorful pattern: the imitation of texture (stone, brick, wood, parquet) looks better.
  • Eliminate complex patterns: eyes get tired of them.To assess the perception of the material, while in the store, put a few tiles together and stand back: you will see the expediency of buying this variety.
  • Purchase material with glaze. It adds strength to the coating and prolongs the life of the material.

What else to consider?

Besides the basic criteria, it is important to think about transportation. Some companies sell material 200 by 300 mm by the piece. In other stores, each box is opened for quality control. Packing is thus broken and delivery becomes complicated. Bringing home material without dense winding is fraught with the fact that corners can break off.

In some large stores, there is a separate table with packing raw materials so that the buyer can independently pack the finishing material. It is worth taking advantage of this: it will save fragments from chipping during delivery.

Do not try to put more tiles in the box: until the material is glued to the surface with tile adhesive, it can form chipped corners. This is especially true of wall decoration. Poor handling and loose self-packing can causethat one fragment will scratch the front surface of another, which will increase the percentage of defective parts and complicate the installation.

If several boxes are bought, it is preferable to transport them without placing them on top of one another. It is unacceptable to impose on top of other building materials (bag of tile adhesive, grout, primer for the floor, curb).

The size of the tile 20x30 cm need plastic crosses 1.5-2 mm in size. It is enough that possible irregularities of faces and angles are not noticeable. For the floor variety it is better to take 2 mm crosses. The larger size is inappropriate: it will visually spoil the appearance of the facing fabric.

In addition, the seams are a sore point of lining: the more they are, the greater the likelihood of reduced service life.

What glue is suitable?

Due to the small size of the tiles, laying surfaces is easy. However, not every composition is worthy of attention. When buying, choose between tile glue brands "Cerisit" and "Eunice." Both companies have a positive assessment of professional craftsmen and home craftsmen.

This composition allows for easy installation: the tile lays down smoothly, sets optimally quickly, while there is always the possibility of adjustment, if you need to correct the level. To increase the durability of the coating, add PVA glue to the composition.

Reviews

Wall and floor tiles measuring 20x30 cm receive positive customer reviews. Masters like to work with this size: this tile is convenient in laying, it looks better than a small variety resembling a mosaic.

Due to the size you can significantly save the time of workers. It pleases professionals the fact that the standard size allows you to choose a frame that will give the facing a complete appearance and originality.
