Antresoli in the corridor: options in the interior

Antresoli in the corridor: options in the interior

In each apartment there are a lot of things that are used rarely or seasonally. We have to pick them storage space. In the existing furniture there are not always free shelves or drawers, and to put additional dressers or cabinets often simply does not allow the space and interior of the apartment.

Kinds

Surely everyone remembers from childhood the mezzanine in the corridor to which the skates were sent, old books, empty cans from under grandmother's jam and many more other items. Children's imagination was simply amazed at how much it fits there.

Such convenient storage space saving designs are not a thing of the past. Due to the variety of materials and finishing options today, the mezzanine can also become an interior decoration.

Mezzanines can be of various types:

  • Open and closed constructions. Closed mezzanine has doors. They can be swing or sliding. Thanks to the appropriate finish such designs fit well into the interior. Accordingly, an open-type structure is a hinged shelf without doors, sometimes divided into sections. In this case, the contents of the mezzanine will be available for review. Alternatively, you can cover such a mezzanine with a decorative curtain.
  • Unilateral and bilateral designs. The double-sided mezzanine can be hung in the long aisle, it will have doors on both sides. Typically, such structures have a large area and can accommodate a large number of objects. Access to the contents of the shelves can be carried out from both the front and back sides. The one-sided type has doors only from the front side, the back side is deaf. Typically, the back wall of this design is the wall of the apartment.
  • Angular location. The angular mezzanine can have a larger size, as well as close the corner communications or ventilation system that are unnecessary in the interior. Often used in the kitchen or bathroom. In the hallway can be installed on the upper tiers of corner cabinets.
  • Modular or furniture mezzanine. From the name it is clear that such hull structures are mounted directly on the furniture. Usually these mezzanines are located on the upper tiers of cabinets. Depending on the model of a particular cabinet, the design may be angular or rectangular. The size of the internal space of this design will also depend on the height of the cabinet and the free space between the upper tier and the ceiling of the room.
  • Stationary or hinged mezzanine. It is fixed between two closely spaced walls under the ceiling. The most common option for installation in the hallway. However, it requires a sufficient ceiling height.

How to place?

Most often for placement of hinged designs choose a hall. The place at the entrance door under the ceiling is not occupied by anything, and the placement of a decorated hanging shelf there will make it useful and decorate the space.

Another suitable location for the mezzanine is a long corridor. Suspended structures can be located around the perimeter of the corridor under the ceiling. This will increase the usable area of the mezzanine. It is worth remembering that installing a curtain design, we reduce the height of the ceiling. The bottom of the mezzanine should be decorated so that it does not spoil the design of the living room. For this option, the most suitable would be bilateral structures with doors on both sides. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to reach many items.

You can come up with your own version of the location of the mezzanine, based on the characteristics of the room and interior design. For example, gallery mezzanines located under the ceiling look great in rooms of a large area. The design describes the entire perimeter of the room. This option is suitable for storing a home library.

Manufacturing

The entresol of the type you need can be made by hand, this process is simple enough for independent execution.

In this case, the following algorithm of actions should be followed:

  • Initially, you should determine the location of your design and material for its manufacture. Suspended structures can be made of PVC, wood, chipboard, drywall. If you intend to store on the mezzanine a large number of things, it is better to make a choice in favor of lightweight and more durable materials, in order to exclude collapse due to the large weight. You should also consider the thickness of the walls in the room.
  • Further measurements are made for the future design. Marked location of the shelves. Measurements are made from the ceiling to the bottom of the structure. Marked depth. The resulting design parameters are recorded in the drawing. When the furniture type mezzanine measures the space between the cabinet and the ceiling, its depth and height.
  • After the acquisition and preparation of the necessary materials, the marking and preparation of the installation site of the hinged or modular design is done. In the case of the mounted version, it will be necessary to additionally take care of the reliability of fastening the bottom of the mezzanine.
  • Retaining rails are attached to the walls. Usually they are metallic, for greater strength. You can make or buy wooden holding plates. Guides sit down on construction glue, after they need to be further fixed with large screws. Do not forget to pre-make holes in the plates for screws. After landing guides on the glue to do it will be very uncomfortable.
  • Next you need to build the structure itself and fix it in place of a canopy. On the guides fixed on both sides, the bottom of the mezzanine is laid. Since the bottom of the beddet design lies on the plates, it is not necessary to fasten it. You can fix it with building glue.
  • The frame is attached to the front part of the structure. It can be knocked out of thin wooden slats or it can be bonded metal plates. For the frame, you can use PVC profile. The frame is also installed on the guide profile, fixed with glue and screws.
  • If the interior of the mezzanine involves dividing it into sections or shelves, then it is worthwhile to implement before the doors are hung. For shelves on the walls, metal holders are screwed on one side at the same height. To them screws fasten shelves made of chipboard or wood.
  • On the finished and fixed mezzanine doors are hung, if any. The hinges are attached to the front frame of the structure. For doors it is better to choose lightweight material and not make them too big. This will prevent sagging of the valves. Sliding doors do not require the installation of hinges. For them, it is necessary to install a guide profile at the top and bottom of the front frame.
  • At the final stage, the exterior finish of the whole structure is carried out.

How to make?

The finished mezzanine will not look harmonious if it does not fit into the interior of the room. No matter how comfortable and durable the hinged structure itself, the design of the apartment should not suffer from its presence. A variety of materials and decorating elements make it possible to implement almost any idea on the design of the mezzanine.

The structural elements that need finishing are rather small. The mezzanine has no large external surfaces, like a cupboard or a bulky dresser. In fact, you need to decorate only the external doors (if any) and the bottom of the mezzanine. In open types of structures will have to pay attention to the design of the shelves and visible internal surfaces.

If the option of location on the top tier of the cabinet is chosen, the finish should be selected in accordance with the colors of the furniture over which the mezzanine is installed. This is not necessarily a complete match of style and color, it is possible to use organic color transitions.

If the design of the corridor is made in the style of country, then the furniture, including the hinged mezzanine, can be finished with wenge wood.Modern manufacturers have mastered the imitation of natural materials in artificial products. If the panels of natural wenge wood are not affordable, you can complete the finish with PVC panels or decorative film stylized for this material.

For the corridor, the bottom of the hinged structure with mirrored panels is very relevant. This will visually return the ceiling height space lost during installation of the mezzanine. Remember that the outer surface of the bottom of the structure should be made light. It will be better than trimming the lower part in a dark scale and losing the visual space of the corridor.

Arrange the space itself hinged shelf can be in different ways. One option is to divide it into small sections for small items. If the mezzanine is supposed to store things of large size, it is better not to divide the space or make two large sections.
