There was a time when there were no curtains for windows. At best, the window opening was covered with a sackcloth or a piece of cloth according to the size of the frame. As time went on, curtains and tulle made our windows beautiful and elegant. What now? We again return to the functional piece of “linen”, whose name is the blinds.

For home comfort today there are about ten types of such structures: with vertical or horizontal lamellae, shutters and plisse, for dormer windows and interframe windows,for arched openings or bay windows, beautiful Roman curtains and multifakturnye curtains, with electric or protective (scooters), unusual photo blinds.

This type of window decor is made of different materials: they are wooden and bamboo, metal (aluminum) and fabric, plastic and paper. Among all blinds, roller blinds are gaining more and more popularity.

There are several types of them, differing from each other in the material used, in size, method of attachment and mounting option:

• Classic open blinds look great on large windows. They are mounted on ceiling mounts either on a wall or in a window opening. They are controlled by a chain or a spring mechanism. Such curtains occupy a minimum of space, cover a large window space, due to this they have a low cost. At the same time, they are quickly polluted, windows do not open well with them, installation requires masculine strength.

• Uni closed cassette. The twisted fabric is fixed in a plastic box, which can be combined in color with PVC window panels. The cassette is mounted directly on the frame.Due to the chain or spring mechanism, the fabric is unwound from the roller. Buyers like this type of roller shutters, since the box is hardly noticeable on the window block, the canvas does not interfere with opening the window, and moves literally an inch from the glass. The window sill is not cluttered with construction. On each frame can be installed on two boxes: at the bottom and top. Curtains will open-close towards each other. Can be mounted on sloping roof windows. The only drawback is the high cost.

• Mini Blinds open can be installed on the window sash and directly frame. The system mechanism is chained. Before you choose the method of installation, you need to determine the installation location of the shutters. They can be installed on the ceiling or upper slope of the window, on the wall above the opening, in the pier on the vertical slopes, on the blind window, on the opening window sash, on the glass.

There are the following ways to install roller blinds:

• by drilling a wall, ceiling or window opening, installing plastic or wooden dowels in the holes, fixing the brackets with screws or screws;

• by drilling the window frame and fixing the holders with screws;

• without the use of a drill and screwdriver, by installing curtains on the bracket-clips (clips);

• without drilling, by sticking to double-sided tape.

When you purchase roller shutters, the kit will include all the necessary fixing materials:

1. Control lifting device with sleeves and chain.
2. Side plugs, latches and brackets of the mechanism with a crosspiece for self-tapping screws (you may have to buy metal brackets for the wall, ceiling or clips for the window sash).
3. Guide line (synthetic string).
4. Chain stoppers that fix the position of the web at the top and bottom.
5. Fastening board and double-sided tape.
6. Magnets-clamps for fastening the curtains with the bottom plate to the frame.

Manufacturers offer a large selection of sets for mounting roller blinds. Choose the one that fits your mounting method, and then you will not have to buy additional items. If your blinds without a box were bought in a store and not made to order strictly according to size, then there may be a problem with fitting the structure to size.

You can trim some types of curtains yourself. For this:

• measure the window: the best experts recommend taking the width of the lumen plus the width of the glazing bead into consideration when installing on the frame - this will be the width of the blade and the shaft;
• open the curtain and remove it from the shaft;
• measure and cut the excess shaft with a hacksaw;
• cut (saw off) the excess of the lower plank to the curtains;

• measure the desired width and draw an auxiliary line;
• cut off excess tissue with sharp scissors or a construction knife;
• the length of the canvas can not be cut, but simply fixed with the help of stops; if trimming is necessary, then detach the blade from the shaft, cut it from the top and re-attach it to the shaft.
• Now the roller blind is ready for assembly.

Rollet can be with or without a guide line. The method of assembling the structure depends on it. But always start by studying the instructions.

Assemble the curtain without string as follows:

1. Determine which side will be more convenient for you to use the control mechanism.
2. Lay in front of you a little roll of canvas from the top edge.
3. Locate the adhesive strip on the shaft with a protective film, remove it.
4. At the very edge of the canvas, place the shaft on top so that the adhesive strip rests on the fabric.
5. Glue the canvas to the shaft.
6. Start winding the web onto the shaft by simply turning the shaft onto yourself and winding the fabric at the same time. Do this carefully, the fabric should lie flat.
7. Insert a metal or wooden weighting plank into the bottom hem.
8. Insert into the shaft on one side a side retainer, on the other - a retainer with a control mechanism.

There are several ways to attach a string to a window pane. The method chosen depends on the design features of the roller blinds. We offer one of the ways.

Assemble the string curtain in the same way as the previous method with the following actions:

• The weighting bar for the bottom edge of the web should be provided with side holes for the fishing line.
• Cut the string from the set in half.

• Do the same with the second piece of fishing line and the pair of fasteners.
• Install the shaft with the curtain in the brackets, expand the fabric to the maximum desired length.
• The line hangs loosely vertically along the web on both sides.
• Thread it through the holes in the weighting agent.
• Attach brackets with holes for the fishing line to the bottom frame panel.
• Align the canvas, stretch the strings and tie them to the brackets.
• Now you can raise and lower the roll with the curtain, open and close the window - the strings will securely hold the canvas.

This is ideal for skylights.

You can do without dowels and screws if you apply the following types of fastening: double-sided tape or clamping brackets (clips). Adhesive tape can be glued fasteners on the frame and the opening window sash or glass. But the clips are used only on the doors.

When attaching tape, follow the simple instructions:

• The frame should be dry and warm, without condensation.
• Treat the joints with degreasing agents (both on the frame and on the fixings).
• Mark the attachment points with a pencil, use for this level. Focus not on the window sill or frame, but on the horizon, otherwise the curtain will skew.
• Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape and stick it on the fasteners.
• Remove the second protective film and attach the fasteners to the frame or glass.
• Insert the side clips for the curtain (one - deaf, the other - with a chain).
• Insert in them the roller with a cloth.

• Having determined the length of the canvas, set the limiters on the chain.
• At the level of the bottom bracket, mark up the frame for attaching the magnets.
• Put metal washers (hardware) on the tape and fasten it to the frame.
• On the curtain symmetrically attach the magnets from the kit.
• Connect hardware with magnets.

Clamps-brackets (they are also clips, they are spring brackets) - a real fixing find for the home craftsman. They are made of metal and PVC. For plastic windows it is better to use plastic clips.

For installation, use our simplest instructions.

1. Open the window.
2. Put on two brackets on top, try on how the window will close.
3. Mark the clip attachment points to the frame so that they do not interfere with the frame and the frame.
4. For safe use, glue the clips with double-sided tape to the frame (do not forget to degrease the surface).
5. Insert side clips.
6. Install the shaft with a roll.
7. Check the performance of the structure.

If before it was mainly about fastening curtains to window frames, now let's talk about installing structures in a more labor-intensive way: with the help of a drill and a screwdriver. In addition to these tools, you will need a level, plumb, screwdriver, dowels, metal brackets, screws, pencil, pen or marker, hammer, stepladder or table (chair), glue (in the form of PVA or liquid nails) - if you accidentally made a hole bigger than you need, put the dowel on the glue.

All these tools you need to fix with metal brackets box with a roller blind on the wall or the ceiling or the upper slope of the window opening. In this work is very important accurate calculation. Be careful when marking. Unnecessary holes in the wall will not decorate it.

The curtain is installed on the wall for several reasons:

• to hide window sill and window defects;

Procedure:

• Determine the center of the window.

1. Remove the side plugs from the box.
2. Attach the box to the top bead of the frame and mark the holes for fastening the structure.
3. Using a screwdriver or screwdriver, screw in the screws on both sides.
4. Put the plugs in place.
5. Release the canvas, about 10-15 cm.
6. Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape on the rail.
7. Gently glue both guides so that the canvas is under them, slightly pressed against the glass.
8. Put the limiters on the chain.
9. If your curtain is without a chain, then you need to install a decorative weight on the lower bar.

Another way of installing the blinds is not at the top, but in the middle or at the bottom.This original method was made possible by the emergence of a new type of curtain mix. Depending on what method of attachment you will use, the size of your curtains will be different, although the window is the same.

When you take measurements, remember:

• Curtains with ceiling and wall fixings are the easiest to model. Here you can make a mistake a couple of centimeters, as they are superimposed on top of the window opening. The model is completely dependent on the vision of the designer. The width should be made about 10 cm wider than the opening, and the length - at will.
• When installing on the wall, note that the box above will take about 5 cm.

• The canvas for roller shutters with PVC guides should be strictly along the width of the glass, since the guides are attached to the beadings.

• Incorrect measurements. Do not forget - the concept of “width of the canvas” is not equal to the concept of “width of the curtain”. Do not forget about fasteners and boxes.

• Belief in the fact that it will be possible to do without drilling. This is not always the case. Double-sided tape is not all powerful. Attaching them to the box to the wall or ceiling does not make sense, and even dangerous.
• Uneven mount because of the revaluation of your eye. Feel free to enjoy the level! Redoing is always more offensive than doing the first time qualitatively.
• Inability to remove the control unit. When buying ready-made curtains, check their design features: there are models in which the control mechanism cannot be removed. This will cause your window to have two right-sided or left-sided curtains. Ugly and prevents to open the window.
• Brackets mounted to wall too close. This will interfere with the unfolding and folding of the roll. Provide other details or options.

But then came the moment when the curtains are installed and you are actively using them. So, the question will soon be on the agenda: how to clean them?

• Since the roller blind is a canvas, it absorbs not only dust, but also smells. Ventilate the room regularly: you will get rid of smells, and dust will be shaken off.
• If necessary, you can use a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a cloth nozzle. If you do this in every cleaning, the curtains will remain clean for a long time.

• A good tool is an eraser. The cloth is impregnated, and the eraser will well wipe off various stains. Just do not touch the holes!

• If this does not help, remove the box, take it apart and carry the cloth in a good dry-cleaner.
• You do not have dry cleaning or extra money? Then pour warm water and a non-aggressive detergent into the bathroom without bleach. Put the canvas in the bath and use a soft sponge to gently rub it. Rinse the curtain several times. Make sure that the detergent (especially the granules) does not remain on the canvas.
