Izospan C: properties and purpose

 Izospan C: properties and purpose

Izospan C is widely known as a material for construction and for creating reliable hydro and vapor insulating layers. It is made from 100% polypropylene, is a laminated material with a particularly high density. The range of application of this material is quite wide, so it is necessary to study more precisely and in detail the instruction of Izospan C in situations of varying complexity.

Thermal materials

The insulation process requires the protection of the insulation material from moisture. For waterproofing insulating materials used in various modern materialswhich have high vapor barrier and waterproofing properties. Such quality materials for waterproofing works include Izospan. One of the varieties is Izospan C, used for waterproofing when insulating walls, roof, ceiling and other parts of the house. The film Izospan is made of a polypropylene cloth.

In addition to the waterproofing film Izospan C, other types of films are produced that have not only waterproofing properties, but also perform the function of a heat-insulator. Some types of vapor protection film Izospan are suitable for isolation from the interior. For the installation of Izospan S film, special adhesive tapes are used, which create vapor-tight joints between film webs.

In addition to the materials Izospan, for insulating packages as a waterproofing from the outside, especially in a highly humid environment, the films of the Stroisol series are used, for example, multi-layer Stroisol has an additional heat insulation layer.

Special features

Isospan C is distinguished by its two-layer structure.On the one hand, it is perfectly smooth, and on the other, it is represented by a rough surface to keep droplets of condensation formed. Izospan C is used as a vapor barrier to protect insulation and other elements from excessive vapor saturation of the liquid inside the room, warmed pitched roofs and ceilings. It is also used in the construction of flat roofs as a vapor barrier. When cement screeds are used, Izospan S is used as a waterproofing layer when installing floors on concrete, soil and other moisture-permeable substrates, when creating basement floors and in wet rooms.

Advantages and disadvantages

Material Izospan C is used to protect the insulation of industrial or residential buildings, and the height does not matter. It can be used for protection against moisture of various types of insulation, such as mineral wool, industrial polystyrene, various polyurethane foam.

The advantages of the material are as follows:

  • strength;
  • reliability - even after installation, it is guaranteed to dry out;
  • universality - protects any insulation;
  • environmental safety of the material, because it does not emit any chemistry;
  • easy installation;
  • resistance to high temperatures, suitable for use in baths and saunas.

Due to its structure, Isospan C prevents condensate from entering the walls and insulation, protecting the structure from the formation of fungus and mold. Among the shortcomings can be identified quite tangible cost Izospan C. But still worth noting that the excellent quality is worth it.

Instruments

For the installation of Izospan C, the following tools and materials that need to be prepared in advance:

  • a vapor barrier film in an amount that corresponds to the surface area covered with the edge to overlap the web;
  • stapler or flat rods for fixing this film;
  • nails and hammer;
  • high-quality mounting or metallized tape for processing all joints.

Installation

Installation work on installing Isospan C is worth doing, adhering to the instructions of experts.

  • In pitched roofs, the material can be mounted directly on the wooden cover and on the metal sheathing. Installation may begin without prior preparation.It is necessary to lay the upper rows of the material on the lower with an overlap of at least 15 centimeters. If the new layer is mounted horizontally as a continuation of the previous one, the overlap must be at least 20 centimeters. Before gluing the sheets of Isospan C, you should pay attention to the density of its joints directly with the roof.
  • Type C-marked Izospan can be used for insulated roofs, regardless of the material of its coating. The installation of the membrane occurs just inside the structure and should fit as closely as possible to the heater. Between other materials and Izospan C there should be a gap for ventilation of at least 4 centimeters. In rooms with high humidity it is best to make this gap a few centimeters larger.
  • On the attic ceiling Iszospan C is laid out on top of the heater across the beams. Installation is recommended to use wooden rails or other fastening elements. If the insulation is made of clay or mineral wool, another layer of Izospan C vapor barrier film should be applied directly to the rough floor.

Insulated roof

The panels of this material should always be laid exactly on the plates of the coating itself, and also only on the batten. It is extremely important to know that the smooth side of this material must necessarily “look” only outwards. The installation itself begins only at the bottom. It should be noted that the upper rows must overlap with the lower rows only with “overlapping”, which should be more than 15 cm.

If the canvas itself is mounted independently as a continuation of the previous layer, then the “overlap” must necessarily be more than 20 cm.

Installing the attic floor

When used as a base layer of vapor barrier, this material is neatly placed on top of the insulation. This should be done with the smooth side down. The direction should be only through the main guides. Fastening is made directly by wooden racks, which today can be bought freely at any hardware store.

If claydite or ordinary mineral wool is used, it means that you first need to place Izospan C on the subfloor, necessarily its smooth side. After that, you can lay insulation and add the main layer of Izospan.

Roof

Izospan C is used to create a vapor barrier regardless of the roofing material. It protects the insulation from moisture and is mounted inside the structure. The material should be as close as possible to the main layer of insulation. When self-installing all the finishing materials inside between them and Izospan S, there should certainly be a sufficient distance of at least 4 cm. This is the so-called ventilation gap. It is important to comply with this requirement in rooms with high humidity.

Concrete floor

Installation is performed on the concrete surface with the smooth side down. Above is a tie, which is used for alignment. For a high-quality alignment of any surface of the floor covering above Isospan C, it is desirable to make a cement screed of a small size. It is necessary to take into account the technical characteristics of this material.

Recommendations for use

When working with Izospan C should adhere to several recommendations of experts.

  • The quality of insulation depends on the reliability of the joints between the materials. This issue should be given more attention. To reliably seal them, the tape Izospan FL is often used.The connecting points of the material and elements of the building structure are covered with a tape Izospan SL. If there is no such tape, then you need to use another material, after consulting with a construction specialist. After the completion of the required work package, it will be almost impossible to fix at least something, since these joints of materials will be inside.
  • To fix the material is used most often galvanized nails or a construction stapler. The choice is always yours.
  • If the topcoat is cladding, then Izospan C is fixed with vertical wooden slats. It is advisable to treat them with antiseptic solutions. If the finish is made of ordinary drywall, then galvanized profiles are used. They must be prepared in advance.
  • When installing Isospan C, always have the smooth side to the insulating material, if used. This is a very important rule.

Reviews

      Hydroprotection Izospan S generally has positive reviews. Many buyers note that in appearance this film is not distinguished by expressiveness, and also it cannot be purchased at an affordable price.But the first opinion is usually wrong. And if you consider the advantages of the material, many people change their opinion about the film in a positive direction.

      This material perfectly protects many constructions from moisture vapor and perfectly copes with its role of insulation. It can be used both for the roof and for the floor. It differs in reliability, durability and excellent quality. This all makes it universal for users, especially for professional builders. It should be noted that this method of waterproofing protects kitchen furniture from harmful factors.
